  • Well, I futzed a little bit around with the layout, as you might be able to tell (I admit, while the Subscriptions tab in the home page simplifies things greatly and makes it easier to check up on everything in one place, it leaves the whole point of a layout and design really pointless, because people barely see it, other than those few seconds to comment a post).

To remove the issue of the difficulty to read the posts, I moved the picture to the right side. Also, I was kinda irritated by the fact that you could only hear the music on one page. I know some people complain about music just starting up when you reach a page, but - seriously? One, that's just an aspect of the site. It's as important as the text colors and visuals you find on the page to articulating the mood, message, whatever of the layout. Plus what would you expect when going to a site of a peer-to-peer website? Also, computers were made with volume buttons for a reason. But anyway.

As far as the whole content of the layout, and what I had wanted to communicate with it, the song was important. "Can I Live" is a very poetic and reflective review of life and it fits beautifully with the layout.

However, in my attempt to get a playlist of songs (some of which, admittingly, don't entirely fit the message of the layout), I had to transfer the custom module to the Main Content area. Well, despite what the theme page says, I found after saving the changes with the player in the footer section that it still works. So, you can still pause the player (if it so bothers you, though you have to be on the main page) and it still plays on every page. The players, unfortunately, covers the picture if you scroll to the way bottom (despite my attempts at messing around with the code to get it in the center), but it's a short price to pay.

My only real worry is the picture. I'm curious what you guys think - visually, does it work? Regardless of what works best for being able to read the page, etc., does it visually look okay all the way on the right, there? All things considered. Thanks.

  • I personally like the picture to the right better. However, I can't say that my opinion disregards the ability to read the text, haha.

I agree with what you said about the music. I sometimes get annoyed when music starts to play automatically, but it really adds a lot to the blog. I mean, you can tell a lot about a person by the kind of music they would choose. And yes, volume control was made for a reason, lol :)

  • Ugh I totally agree with you on the music issue... I really don't understand why people make it such a big deal. Like you said, there are volume buttons. Use them.
I love when people have music playing. (lol especially if it's a mix of Jay-Z and classical -kudos on that, my friend.) I wish more people would open up and show us what kind of music they listen to.

I actually liked the picture in the middle. I don't ever
remember having a problem reading with it there, but I guess that's just
me lol... The main thing is, if you prefer it in a certain spot, go for it.

And btw, I'm highly tickled that you posted this at 11:11.

  • I like that it's easier to read, but the picture's covered up with boxes at the top of the page.  This only really becomes a big deal if you're looking at individual posts though which is something I admit to doing since I read your site through the RSS Feed and only come here to comment :/

  • @FlyAway180 - Heh, it's alright. It'll probably end up being functionality that determines the end result. My only stuck point is, as my friend mentions two comments below, that it's covered by the module boxes on right. And, of course, if I make the background color of those transparent, we run into the exact same problem as before. Heh, oh well. I think it still works, nonetheless. Time'll tell.

@NatalieTheSaint - You nailed the music thing head on. I miss the days when people on xanga put so much effort into just choosing a playlist for their site. Heh, even if I ended up disagreeing with most of what they were playing. As for Jay, I'm not going to pretend that every song he's ever come out with were "music worthy" - but the three I did put are definitely steller examples of fantastic songs, regarless of genre (escpecially in light of today's current music scene...heh, but a rant for another day).

@bangwhimper - Yeah, I totally agree about the box thing. But I don't know how to rectify that quite yet.... However, while somewhat unsightly, I did make it capable for you to scroll down so far on the page so that, even if the post doesn't go further than the boxes, you're still able to see the picture if you want to.

  • @NatalieTheSaint - I had also meant to say before (but forgot to type it, of course) - the 11:11 thing was totally unplanned. I hadn't even noticed 'til you mentioned it. Do you think I get special types of wishes for posting at that time?

  • Aw yeah I miss when people had like complete lists of music on their page. It was like a whole other little section of their blog that talked about them...

And dude of course you get special wishes! Things like that don't just happen. It's a super magical occurrence. lol
