  • Every time I hear someone say thst we should get rid of the public school system, I always think they're making a splendid joke.

Then I realize they're being serious.

  • People love to declaim against stuff.  They love to reform by opposing something else than their sacred cows.  It's the reason Mohammed Atta flew the plane into the Twin Towers.  It's the reason I voted against Bill Clinton and Al Gore and you probably voted against George Bush and John McCain.  It's harder to build up than tear down.
The logical alternative to public schools is parochial or home schooling.  Nobody can afford the former and few are up to the latter.  It takes dedication.

Even blogging can degrade into , in the words of Macbeth,a "taleTold by an idiot, full of sound and fury,Signifying nothing."

  • @wrybreadspread - For the record, I probably would have (though I can only speak in retrospect, seeing as I was not old enough to vote at that time) voted against Clinton.

Private schools run at a rate that most common layparents simply could not afford. Many students would receive no education as apposed to the education they are receiving now. And, while in many cases public schools are in a state of disarray, proper reform to the system (as well as a lack of resistance to how the system ought to work) would help it out. I went to a public school all through high school and it ranks superior to the private schools in the area.

While I would never advocate something like abolishing private schools, I tend to find them to be a less satisfactory adviroment than public schools and to remove public schools would create a gapping whole in possible useful resources for youth as a whole in America.

    But, 'tis only my opinion.
